ZIMBABWE AT A DANGEROUS CROSSROADS AS WAR VETERANS TURN AGAINST MNANGAGWA

Zimbabwe is now in a very dangerous political moment. The Central Intelligence Organisation, which is the state security agency, is now watching Andreas Ethan Mathibela very closely. Mathibela is the leader of the Zimbabwe National War Veterans Association. The CIO now calls him a person of security interest. This means the government is following him everywhere and treating him like a threat.

The CIO works under the Minister of State Security in the President’s Office. They have already told all immigration officers in the country that Mathibela must not be allowed to leave Zimbabwe. To them, Mathibela is a wanted man. If he tries to move outside the borders, they can arrest him. This shows how serious the situation has become.

Mathibela’s trouble started when he spoke strongly against President Emmerson Mnangagwa. As a war veterans leader, his words carry weight. He said Mnangagwa has failed Zimbabwe and must step down now. He did not hide his anger or fear the government. This bold stand is rare in Zimbabwe, and it has made the government very angry with him. Now his life is in danger.

But Mathibela is not alone. ZANU PF itself is now divided into two fighting groups. One group supports Mnangagwa. The other group supports Vice-President Constantino Chiwenga. Both men want full control of ZANU PF. Both want power. Their fight is now spilling into the public, and supporters are also fighting among themselves. This has made the political climate very tense.

The tension worsened when another war veterans leader, Blessed Geza, told Zimbabweans to rise up and remove Mnangagwa from power on 31 March. This call for an uprising shocked the nation and increased fear everywhere. Many people now do not know what will happen next. Zimbabweans have lived through violence before, so any talk of rising up brings deep worry.

War veterans were once the strongest supporters of ZANU PF. They fought for freedom and later protected the ruling party. But today they are angry. They say Mnangagwa does not care about ordinary people. They say he has forgotten why the liberation struggle was fought. Because of this anger, they are now speaking openly against him.

By targeting Mathibela, the government is showing how scared it is of losing control. The CIO wants to silence him and stop other critics from speaking. They want to make an example out of him. Mathibela now faces arrest, and maybe worse. His situation shows how dangerous it is to speak the truth under this government.

Ordinary Zimbabweans are watching all of this with fear. The economy is already broken. People are suffering. There is no money, no jobs, and no hope. Now the political fight between Mnangagwa and Chiwenga is making life even harder. People worry that things may get violent again.

The war veterans calling for Mnangagwa to resign is a strong message. It shows the ruling party is weak and divided. It shows people are tired. Zimbabweans want solutions to their suffering, not more fighting.

Now the CIO is hunting for Mathibela. The whole world will watch closely. Zimbabwe is standing at a dangerous crossroads. What happens next will decide if we move towards peace or fall deeper into conflict.
