TAGWIREI’S QUIET MARCH TO POWER MUST WORRY EVERYONE

Kudakwashe Tagwirei is no longer hiding. Many people now believe he wants to be the next president of Zimbabwe. Just a few days ago, he spoke at a big church youth conference and told his life story. He said he started his business with only seven thousand US dollars. He said he sold his house in Westgate to take a risk. Today he is a rich man with many companies. He is very close to President Mnangagwa. But behind all these nice stories, something serious is happening. Tagwirei wants power.

Tagwirei is not a small person in our country. For many years, he has been one of Mnangagwa’s closest allies. His company, Sakunda Holdings, has made a lot of money from government contracts. Many people say he became rich through state tenders. His name is always linked to corruption and looting. He gives money to Zanu PF, to the army, to politicians, and even to churches. He once paid for Zanu PF’s office furniture. Now many people are saying he wants to take over when Mnangagwa is gone.

Right now, Zanu PF is fighting inside itself. Mnangagwa wants to stay in power until 2030. But his deputy, Constantino Chiwenga, wants him to leave in 2028. This fight is breaking the party. Chiwenga is using his war veteran and army links. Mnangagwa is using people like Tagwirei to fight back. Mnangagwa is scared because Chiwenga can use the army to remove him, just like they removed Mugabe in 2017. This is why he changed army commanders. He removed Sanyatwe and put Matatu. Tagwirei is part of this big power game.

Tagwirei is also using religion, business, and money to win people. He tells young people they can be rich like him. He quotes the Bible. He thanks Prophet Makandiwa for praying for him. He got an award from the Seventh-Day Adventist Church. He gives money to the poor through his Bridging Gap Foundation. He sponsors Dynamos and Highlanders. All this builds his image as a man who helps and a man who leads.

He says when you get money, you get power. That is very dangerous. In Zimbabwe, the army still controls many things. Chiwenga still has strong support in the army. But people say Tagwirei also has influence in the army. They say he is close to some commanders like Brigadier-General Fidelis Mhonda. This means he is not just using money. He is also using military power.

On 31 March, Tagwirei was put into Zanu PF’s central committee. He is also the chairperson of the Land Tenure Implementation Committee. This shows he is now inside Zanu PF politics. Many people now talk about him as a possible successor to Mnangagwa, together with Chiwenga and General Sibanda.

But we must be careful. Tagwirei has never been elected. He has no real political experience. His power comes from money and connections. If he becomes president, Zimbabwe will be run like a private company. The people will have no voice. That is not democracy.

Today we see a new type of politics where billionaires want to run countries. But Zimbabwe is not for sale. We must speak out. We must stand for leaders who are chosen by the people, not leaders who buy their way to the top.

Tagwirei’s rise is a danger sign. If we keep quiet, the future of our country will be controlled by the rich, not by the people. We must say no.
